Kellogg Full-Time MBA Program
Individual Dual-Degree Programs
While completing their MBA, students may choose to earn a second master's-level degree offered through other schools at Northwestern University.
Applicants to an individual dual-degree program must be admitted separately both to Kellogg and the other school. Applicants must indicate their interest in an individual dual-degree when applying to Kellogg.
MEDICINE-MANAGEMENT (MD-MBA)
The MD-MBA Program is an opportunity to obtain an MD from the Feinberg School of Medicine at Northwestern University and an MBA from the Kellogg School of Management in five years. The Program allows students to combine their medical training with the study of business and health industry management.
MD-MBA students complete courses for both degrees in five years instead of the usual six. Students earn both degrees by completing 18 managerial courses within four quarters of study, including all core courses, and 12 quarters of the required Medical School curriculum.
Students already enrolled in one of the schools may apply for admission to the other during the first year at the Kellogg School or the third year at the Medical School.

Why an MBA?
As the U.S. healthcare system continues to evolve, it is becoming increasingly important for physicians to play a role in healthcare administration. Physicans trained as health industry managers are in a position to improve the quality and cost of medical care at the institutions at which they work. In order to learn the skills necessary to be an effective leader, Feinberg students can combine their medical training with an MBA from Kellogg through Northwestern's joint degree program.
Do I need a business background?
No. Kellogg students come from diverse professional, academic and personal backgrounds. While you do not need previous business training, the Admissions Committee is interested to learn about your motivations and career goals. Specifically, how will an MBA from Kellogg help you meet your educational needs and professional goals?
Do I need work experience?
Although work experience is not a requirement to apply to the MD-MBA program, the Admissions Committee believes that it greatly enriches one’s experience in and contributions to the program. The Admissions Committee evaluates each applicant individually and is interested to know how your background and experiences will add to the Kellogg community both in and out of the classroom.
When do I complete my MBA?
After completing three years of medical school, students accepted to the MD-MBA Program enroll full-time at Kellogg (Evanston campus) during the fourth year. During the fifth year, students complete their course work at Kellogg as well as their medical training at Feinberg. Students are required to take a minimum of eighteen courses through Kellogg, including all the core courses.
What do I major in at Kellogg?
Feinberg students are required to concentrate in Health Industry Management (HIM) at Kellogg; however they may also complete one or two complementary majors (e.g. Management and Strategy, Finance, Marketing, etc.).
Can I take courses at Kellogg’s Chicago campus?
Students may take courses at the Part-Time MBA Program on the Chicago campus, but courses must be approved by the Assistant Dean for Students at Kellogg.
